There’s a new dessert spot creating buzz for frozen custard in La Vista, and it’s doing more than satisfying sweet tooth cravings. Sprinkle Joy, owned by Hannah Sheffield, a recent transplant and military spouse, has quickly become a local favorite…not only for its rich, creamy custard but also for its mission to support community charities.

What Makes Frozen Custard Different?
Many people walk into Sprinkle Joy expecting ice cream, but frozen custard in La Vista offers something a little different. Legally, custard must contain a higher butterfat content and more egg yolk than standard ice cream. It’s also made with virtually no air, creating a dense, rich texture that melts smoothly in every bite.
Think of it as the best parts of ice cream and gelato rolled into one, served at a slightly warmer temperature for maximum flavor.
You may have tasted frozen custard before at Freddy’s or Culver’s, currently the only other places in the Omaha area serving it, but never at a locally owned shop. That’s what makes Sprinkle Joy special. (And if you’re curious about more local fast food favorites, check out this blog I wrote. Just make sure you save room for a stop at Sprinkle Joy afterward!)
The Most Popular Flavor So Far
While customers can build their own creations with more than 30 toppings, one flavor has quickly risen to the top: Cookies & Crème Brûlée – a decadent mix of vanilla custard, caramel, and Oreos. What makes it even more fun is that this flavor wasn’t originally on the menu at all. It was inspired by a customer order at Sprinkle Joy’s Georgia location, and Hannah loved the idea so much that she made it a permanent feature in La Vista.
Hannah’s journey adds another layer of richness to the story. As a military spouse, she’s no stranger to change. When her family received orders to relocate to Offutt, she closed her successful Georgia shop and started fresh in Nebraska. Rebuilding a brick-and-mortar business from scratch is no small feat. It’s challenging enough to establish one thriving location, let alone doing it all over again in a brand-new community. That perseverance, along with her dedication to both customers and causes, is part of what makes Sprinkle Joy stand out.
A Mission That Goes Beyond Dessert
Every scoop of frozen custard in La Vista at Sprinkle Joy helps the community. Five percent of all sales go directly to local charities, with causes changing every month. In July, the proceeds supported the 50 Mile March, an event raising awareness and funds for veterans facing homelessness and PTSD. This is an event close to my heart as a multiple-time participant of the event.
Hannah invites customers to help select future charities by scanning a QR code in-store or voting through social media.
What’s Next for Sprinkle Joy?
The shop hosted its official ribbon cutting and grand opening party on August 8th, complete with plans for menu expansion. A dairy-free, allergen-free custard alternative is in the works, made with a pea protein base but still delivering that same rich, creamy texture. Early taste tests were a hit, and it’s expected to be a game-changer for customers with dietary restrictions.
