Offutt Air Force Base is a major strategic installation and home to the U.S. Strategic Command, the 55th Wing, and key global mission partners. With roughly 10,000 military and federal employees, Offutt plays a critical role in national defense and global operations.
The base is located in Bellevue, Nebraska, approximately 10 miles south of downtown Omaha, just west of Highway 75 and minutes from Interstate 80. This location gives military families easy access to the Omaha metro while maintaining a more suburban, family-friendly environment.
Offutt Air Force Base has a long and important history that dates back to the late 1800s. Originally established as Fort Crook, the site began as an Army outpost named after Major General George Crook. As military aviation evolved, an airfield was added in 1921 to support growing flight operations. In 1924, the installation was renamed Offutt Field in honor of 1st Lt. Jarvis J. Offutt, Omaha’s first World War I air casualty.
During World War II, the installation played a major role in aircraft production through the Martin-Nebraska Bomber Plant, where more than 2,000 aircraft were built—including the historic Enola Gay and Bockscar. In 1948, the base officially transitioned from the Army to the newly formed U.S. Air Force and became Offutt Air Force Base, later serving as headquarters for the Strategic Air Command. The 55th Wing first arrived in 1966 and was permanently assigned to Offutt in 1991.
Offutt Air Force Base plays a critical role in U.S. global defense operations. The 55th Wing conducts intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and command-and-control missions that support combatant commanders and national leadership around the world. Aircraft stationed at Offutt include the RC-135 Rivet Joint, WC-135 Constant Phoenix, E-4B National Airborne Operations Center, and the Navy’s E-6B Mercury, providing unmatched capabilities in data collection, airborne command, and secure communications.
Since the Cold War, Offutt has remained a cornerstone of U.S. strategic deterrence. Today, it serves as headquarters for U.S. Strategic Command, overseeing nuclear operations as well as space and cyber defense missions. Offutt’s central location within the continental United States adds to its strategic value, offering both geographic security and the ability to project operational reach across North America and beyond.
Omaha consistently ranks among the top 50 largest cities in the U.S., but its cost of living is noticeably lower than many comparable metro areas. For military families, that often means more home for your BAH and shorter commutes.

Top tier realtor, professional, & friend! Justin stopped at nothing to find me a home and remained consistently vigilant and diligent with each home we assessed over a six month period. His patience and unyielding commitment to going above and beyond ensured I did not jump into a flip house with subpar renovations or some old fixer upper with more repairs than the selling price. His attention to detail helped ensure the home I finally selected was adjusted where needed to meet my expectations and ensure my total comfort once all documents were signed and the house became my home. I could not have picked a better realtor if I made one myself. He’s extremely versed in the craft, known within the region, and continues to build relationships with each new client, builder, and realtor he interacts with. I’ll definitely keep him busy in the future with any new buys or sells and will continue to recommend him to anyone I know in search of a home... including you!Posted on Google Christina M. He made the home buying process simple, stress-free, and easy to understand. He was always available to answer questions, explain every step, and make sure everything stayed on track. He went out of his way to show us houses, offer advice, and was honest about anything he saw that could be a problem in a home. He even offered to help with moving if we needed it. On top of that, his Champions Program provides incredible support and benefits for active duty military, veterans, police officers, and nurses/healthcare workers — it truly shows how much he cares about serving those who serve. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend Justin to anyone looking to buy or sell a home.Posted on Google Sarah HuntNovember 30, 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We purchased a home in Omaha in October of 2025. We selected Justin due to his military connection (husband active-duty AF) and we could not have selected a better realtor. Justin understood our time-constraint and made himself readily available to view homes. With Justin's expertise, we ended up finding the perfect home, in the perfect location, at the perfect price, and within the perfect time-constraint. We were even able to do our home inspection in-person prior to going back home. Justin truly went above and beyond during our contingency period when he ended up doing a repair himself! My husband and I have bought and sold 6+ homes and this was truly one of the easiest transactions due to Justin's competence. Justin frankly enjoys his career and it shows. He truly does it as a service and has continued to check-in on our home until it can become our permanent residence. Thank-you for everything you have done for us and continue to do for your community!Posted on Google Beth SoldnerNovember 20, 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
