Offutt AFB Gate Access And Traffic

Getting onto and off Offutt Air Force Base (AFB) can feel confusing at first, especially if you’re new to the area or just getting stationed here. Between different gate hours, traffic patterns during rush hour, and occasional base exercises — knowing when and where to enter can save you time and stress.

Here’s a clear breakdown so you can plan your daily commute like a pro using our Offutt AFB gate access and traffic guide.

Gate Hours & Access Points

According to official Offutt resources, the base has several main gates — but not all operate the same. Gate hours last verified October 2026.

✅ StratCom (SAC) Gate

  • Open 24/7 / 365 days a year
  • This is the main and busiest entry point for most service members, dependents, and visitors.

⏰ Kenney (Flag) Gate

  • Open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily (check for federal holiday closures)
  • Often used by families and commuters because it’s a direct route from Omaha and Bellevue.
  • Closed for most federal holidays.

🕕 Bellevue Gate

  • Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. only
  • Best for weekday arrival/ departure if it’s on your route — it’s smaller but closer to some housing areas.
  • Closed weekends, Federal Holidays, ACC Family Days, and 55th Wing Goal Days.

🚧 East Gate

  • Permanently closed — so don’t plan to use this.

Which Gate Is Best & When?

Your best gate largely depends on where you live, what direction you’re coming from, and the time of day:

🕗 Morning Commute (6–9 a.m.)

  • US-75 Corridor traffic leading to both SAC and Kenney can get congested — especially from Omaha or Bellevue.
  • If you live toward Old Towne or south Bellevue, the Bellevue Gate is often quicker than SAC or Kenney during peak entry hours.
  • The StratCom Gate usually handles traffic best because it’s staffed and wider.

🏡 Evening Commute (3–6 p.m.)

  • Exit congestion peaks around 4–5 p.m.
  • SAC and Kenney lines can back up onto Highway 75 if motorists cluster, especially when schools let out.
  • Bellevue’s shorter hours mean traffic is funneled to the main gates, which increases wait times toward the evening rush.

⏱️ Typical Wait Times

  • Non-peak: Often under 5 minutes at SAC or Kenney.
  • Peak commute: 10–20+ minutes depending on volume, especially Mondays and Fridays. (This is anecdotal from local commuters; official wait clocks are not published.)

Gate Traffic Tips

🛣️ Use Google/Waze Before Driving

Local navigation apps may show delays on US-75 / Butler Boulevard — primary approaches to Offutt.

🪪 Visitor Access

Visitor passes usually start at the Visitor Control Center (VCC) near the SAC Gate (7 a.m.–4 p.m., Mon–Fri). After hours, passes are often issued at the StratCom Gate.

📆 Security / Exercises

There are times (training exercises, security alerts, base events) when gate access rules can shift quickly — sometimes with intermittent closures or redirections. Always check official Offutt social media or base alerts before heading out.

Construction & Gate Changes

From time to time, specific gates may temporarily close or shift hours due to construction projects or upgrades — like when the Kenney Gate was closed for upgrades and Bellevue expanded hours to help with congestion in past seasons. Always look for current posts on Offutt’s official channels.

Commuting from Bellevue & Papillion: Is Highway 370 the Better Option?

If you’re driving to Offutt from Bellevue, Papillion, or parts of La Vista, many locals prefer Highway 370 over I-80 or US-75 — even though it has stoplights.

Here’s why:

  • More predictable traffic flow compared to I-80 and US-75
  • Fewer sudden slowdowns caused by highway merging
  • Less congestion during peak morning and afternoon commute times
  • Easier access to neighborhoods in west Bellevue and Papillion

While you’ll encounter stoplights along 370, traffic tends to move steadily. By contrast, I-80 and US-75 can experience bottlenecks, especially near interchanges and during rush hour (roughly 7–9 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.).

If you’re stationed at Offutt and living in Papillion or western Bellevue, 370 is often the “steady and reliable” choice — even if it doesn’t always look fastest on the map.

Quick Access Summary

Kenney6 a.m.–9 p.m.Popular alternative to SAC; direct from US-75

Justin helped make our military move amazing. He was attentive, professional, and personable. Justin was prompt with showing us all the houses we wanted to see. We also felt we could trust his advice. He pointed out potential problems and was patient as we looked for just the right place to call home. It was great to work with someone who understands the military life and the Omaha area.

Justin has managed a rental property we were in. He did a great job going above and beyond to resolve an electrical issue we had. He had to go back and forth with the warranty company on a dryer and the electrician. He got it resolved quickly with very little input from us. Great guy!

Great rental property manager to work with! He manages our rentals and we very seldom have issues, compared to our previous agent. We LOVE his flat-rate monthly pricing structure! Thanks Justin!

We couldn't have asked for a better realtor! Incredibly accommodating and responsive, always keeping us informed every step of the way. Buying a home from long distance could have been stressful, but Justin made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. As a veteran family, we especially appreciated his knowledge of the VA home-buying process and his commitment to serving those who have served. We highly recommend Justin to anyone looking for a trustworthy, hardworking realtor who truly goes above and beyond to help you find your perfect home!

Relocating across the country while on active duty can be stressful, but Justin made the home-buying process effortless. From the start, he understood the unique challenges of a military PCS and went above and beyond what we ever expected. We completed our entire closing remotely, and Justin handled every detail to make it seamless. Even after closing, his support didn't stop. Since we couldn't be there right away, Justin personally installed our garden hoses and set up our automatic sprinkler system to keep our new lawn healthy until we arrived. He also connected us with trusted contractors so we could begin home improvement projects before moving in, saving us valuable time. As if that wasn't enough, he even received one of my vehicles after it was shipped, giving us one less thing to worry about during an already hectic cross-country move. Those aren't things a realtor is expected to do—they're things someone does because they genuinely care about their clients. Justin didn't just help us buy a house; he helped our family make a smooth transition to a new community. His professionalism, communication, local knowledge, and willingness to go above and beyond are second to none. If you're looking for a realtor who will advocate for you, treat you like family, and continue supporting you long after closing day, I can't recommend Justin highly enough. Thank you for Everything you did for our family—we truly appreciate it.

Cannot recommend Justin enough. As first time buyers he patiently walked us through the process along with all of our questions. Being a military family, we had to close sight unseen (nerve racking to say the least), but he ensured every last detail was addressed before we stepped foot in our home. Justin is an expert, well connected in the greater Omaha community, and above all trustworthy .

Justin was an excellent realtor for us. He showed us probably dozens of homes, and was with us and supportive every step of the way. He was there to assist us in navigating when our first deal fell through, helping us deal with the process and some extremely unprofessional agents. He is very knowledgeable and helpful and I cannot recommend him enough, especially if you are military looking to buy in the area, or a veteran looking to find your forever home.
